Valérian Thomas riichi player of the year 2011

valerianthomasPARIS - They have just started playing in international tournaments, yet the French dominate the list of the best riichi players of 2011. Most successful of them is Valérian Thomas, with Nicolas Campina as the runner-up. Only Gemma Collinge from the UK prevents the French from completely occupying the top-three; and it's another French, Jean-Marc Dedieu, who is on position number 4.

 

For some years, Austrian player and mahjong statistician Alexander Doppelhofer has calculated who, based on his results, is the best player of the past year. This year, the list is based on the best six results of each player.

The best riichi player of 2010, Janco Onnink from the Netherlands, now is on position 42. The list was first published in 2009, when Anders Labich from Denmark was the best riichi player. In the current list, Anders is on position 33.
