AMSTERDAM - Dutch mahjong player Wim Rijnders (64) passed away last Tuesday. He was a member of mahjong clubs Three Wise Men and the Kong Robbers. He had been ill for over more than a year.
Wim Rijnders - he was an uncle of former EMA-president Robert Rijnders - was already a veteran in the game when, in 2005, he switched from the Chinese classical rules to the Mahjong Competition Rules. In that year, he participated in the first European Championship in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, where he ended on a modest 70 place.
He did not care much to play abroad in MCR tournaments. His last participation in a MERS tournament dates back from March 2013, when he played in the Rotterdam Open.
