Top-3 at Baden.

BADEN (Vienna), Austria - The eventual winner, of the Austrian Open the Chinese Ying Tian, seemed to want to "walkover" starting with the maximum points of 16 from the first four games, but suddenly took a bath from Alexander "Auto" Doppelhofer in round 5, ending the tournament tied in table points with Alexander at 21, besting him only in game points 713 to 688, followed narrowly by Cao Lihua in 3rd with 20 table points.

Ten nations played in high summer temperatures at Hotel At The Park in Baden for the 11th Austrian Mahjong Open. They played 7 rounds of 120 min each over 14 hours total play time. The China delegation of 8 players showed us once again why mahjong is "their" game, taking two of the top three spots.
This tournament was the 5th Baden Open, and at the same time also the first tournament of the 10th Austrian / Hungarian Sisi Cup. The Sisi Cup is the yearly price for the combined results of the Hungarian and the Austrian Open championships.
Doppelhofer was top going into the final round with a wafer-thin game point lead, yet, in the end his 688 score points were surpassed by Tian Ying.
The Mah Jong Club Baden celebrated its 10th year anniversary with champagne and cake. Founding chairman Martin "Lupo" Hoffman has unfortunately withdrawn for unknown reasons, so now for several years Norbert Tschinkel leads the club.
