BEIJING - Disciplinary authorities have identified 220 recent violations of the Party's frugality rules, the country's top anti-graft agency announced on Monday. A total of 313 Party and government officials have received punishments, from serious warnings to removal from public office, with all names and misbehaviors publicized on the website of the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

HONG KONG, China - Police arrested 129 people when they closed down 11 illegal mahjong parlours in a Shau Kei Wan residential block yesterday. But the raids upset elderly customers of the informal parlours, who said they had been enjoying low-stakes games there for 20 years.

HONGKOU - The township of Hongkou in southwestern China's Sichuan province set a Guinness World Record on Thursday for the greatest number of people playing mahjong at the same time, according to the newspaper Want Daily. At 2pm on Thursday, 2,380 people simultaneously began drawing tiles under at 595 tables each with its own beach umbrella.
