Spacious conference hall allows to accomodate participants of Perm Riichi Open 2017.

PERM, Russia - The first in "Siberia" zone of Russia RERS 2 tournament took place in Perm gathering seventy-two players from twelve cities of Russia. The winner is Oleg Kim from Perm, runner-up is Anton Lysenko from Tyumen, 3rd place goes to Dmitriy Sirotkin from Moscow. This tournament was also WMSG-2018 selection trial with three distributed places. All scoring was done via "Pantheon" system -- no paper or tenbo sticks, login via mobiles or smartphones.

"Siberia" zone development

According to the decision made at the EMA General Assembly in Portugal in May 2017, Russia was given the opportunity to run EMA certified MCR and riichi tournaments in the so-called "Siberia" zone (part of Russia from Urals through Siberia to Far East). So far the second RERS tournament took place in "Siberia" this year (first one was in Novosibirsk in August 2017). The demand to participate and get ranked was extremely high -- as many as forty-five (!) players participated in their first EMA sanctioned tournament.

Acknowledgements

To carry out flawlessly such a major tournament without prior experience was an almost impossible task. Nevertheless, the organizing team did an excellent job! Many thanks to Elena Shalimova who has managed to find an excellent place for the event, and who was taking care of all minor details. Chief referee Dmitriy Vodilov and his helper Arthur Khanafin ensured all tournament procedures were of the highest standards.
