ONLINE - The "International Online Riichi Mahjong Championship" ("IORMC") is an annual online competition organized by the 'Korean Mahjong League' ('KML') played on online riichi platform With over four million registered players, ranging from casual players to professionals, is arguably the most popular online mahjong platform in the world.

Starting in 2011, the "IORMC" included only two competing national teams, but numbers have significantly increased. In this year's edition a record high of twenty-one teams from different countries are expected to compete, representing Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, the People's Republic of China, France, Hong Kong/China, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, the Russian Federation, Singapore, Sweden, Chinese Taipei, Ukraine, the United States of America, and Vietnam. Each team consists of four players. To ensure the best online players are being sent in representation of their respective countries, most participating countries organized qualifier tournaments. As to be expected the tournament is played using Tenhou’s standard rule set which include aka dora ('red fives'), starting-point totals of 25,000 per player (30,000 minus a 5,000 ante), and other subtle nuances.

Team and Individual Competition

The tournament consist of two events: the Team Competition (four hanchan), which will be take place Saturday, the 3rd of November, and the Individual Competition (three hanchan), which is scheduled for the 17th of November. The sixteen highest scoring players in the Team Competition qualify for a seat in the Individual Competition, which will be a knockout tournament from quarterfinal to final.
